Georges was born to a Jewish family in Dabrowika,Poland ( later renamed Dubrovytsia, Ukraine) on August,1, 1924. Seven years later his family moved from Poland to Paris for his education in mathematics. Being a French resident at the time Georges served in the resistance to help liberate France from Hitlers forces, and the Vichy puppet government he put in place.
In 1943 the Vichy authorities captured him and sent him to the concentration camp Dachau, a camp for political prisoners and also was the first camp opened in Germany 51 days after Hitler took power. He was kept with political prisoners as so to crush opposition to the Nazi party. He was there until the camp was liberated in 1945. He was then returned to France where he entered engineering school. He was then naturalized as a French citizen the following year. A few years after graduating and getting a degree in Nuclear Physics he then invented the multiwire proportional chamber and later particle detectors both of which he received a noble prize for in 1992. This was the last time a single person was ever rewarded the Noble prize for physics. He died in Paris, France
